AGHORESHWAR BHAGWAN RAMJI

SOCIAL REFORMS

On completion of long period of penance and achievement of all sidhis, Baba Bhagwan Ram decided to devote his energy to humanitarian service. Baba established Sri Sarveshwari Samooh, a socio-cultural organization on 21st September 1961. Sri Sarveshwari Samooh is a socio-spiritual institution dedicated to the redemption, progress and welfare of all human beings. The Samooh works towards the spiritual growth of the people and social upliftment of the poor.

Baba chose to serve the lepers who were shunned by their own relatives and the entire society forcing them to beggary for a living. Earlier Baba used to collect lepers of Varanasi janpad and treat them. After a small beginning when Baba served lepers himself with help of indigenous medicine, a big leprosy hospital Avadhoot Bhagwan Ram Kustha Sewa Ashram was built with full fledged outdoor and indoor facilities. A team of qualified doctors, nurses and paramedical staff were put in place where thousands of lepers were treated and cured.

Baba established a school named Avadhoot Bhagwan Ram Nursery Vidyalaya in the Parao Ashram premises for the proper physical, mental and spiritual development of children. The school is up to 5th grade. The knowledge of environment, social norms, moral and religious teachings is the part of the curriculum with emphasis on dedication towards hard work, love and respect for the nation and humanity.

Baba established a number of Ashrams all over India. The ashrams founded by Parampujya are not a burden on society. The devotees labor themselves, produce crops and vegetables that are not only sufficient for the inhabitants and visitors, but are also gifted to well wishers of the Ashram. Parampujya Aghoreshwar said, unlike the temples of today, we do not sow seeds of conflict. We inspire people irrespective of the religion to which they belong, towards common brotherhood and enlightenment. Aghoreshwar Mahaprabhu amalgamated aghor sadhna with human service which is practiced in his ashrams.

TRAVEL

Parampujya Aghoreshwar travelled all over India and also undertook journeys to the Himalayas. He visited Nepal, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, France, Italy, Britain, USA and Mexico. The visit to these countries were for the benefit of masses. The Mexico visit was meant to apprise him about the work being done there for the eradication of leprosy, He also guided people of Mexico about the herbal medicine for curing leprosy.

REFORM

Parampujya Aghoreshwar directly contacted Aughar Siddhas (saints) and Siddha Peeths (holy places) and denounced various misgivings in the society regarding the aghor tradition owing to the erratic behavior of some sadhus. He simplified the tradition so that it appeals to the masses. He is remembered as (Ek Aughad Leek Se Hat Kar (A Reformer Among Saints). Like a true reformist, Parampujya brought changes in aghori practices in tune with modern times. The important ones are as follows:

bullet

He moved the aghor sadhna from shamshan to ashram and prohibited the use of liquor and other toxic substance.

bullet

He was against the miracles to happen in the public and guided his disciples to stay away from any public exhibition of spiritual power.

bullet

He established Sarveshwari Samooh and inspired the youth towards the spiritual growth of the people and social upliftment of the poor through its programs.

bullet

He inducted general public too in this path. They offer prayers in ashram in the Guru Purnima and Navratra Festivals so as to worship the Sarveshwari in the simplest way.
